Walking a route I have followed many times, I was pleasantly surprised to come across a new hiking route information panel, and even more surprised to see the background map credited to OpenStreetMap (and MapBox). I know I'm far from the only OSM contributor to succumb to the lure of "fixing" things in Wikimedia Commons and related projects. I was pushed over the edge by the lack of photos of the Málaga Metro.
Going out and taking photos to fill the gaps turned out to be the easy bit, compared to sorting out categories and wikidata links/labels. But I got there in the end, and now every station has at least

It's been too hot recently for energetic OSM projects, so I've focused on the small scale: using @everydoor to survey shops and services in the triangle formed by Alameda Capuchinos and Alameda Barceló.
There was plenty to be done on this 1.3 kilometres of street length: roughly 50 additions, 30 changes, and only 10 POIs confirmed unchanged.
As a bonus I got to enjoy the deep shade of Plaza Capu

The joys of literal translations in exonym tags in #OpenStreetMap. I'm not a native Spanish speaker, but I am doubtful that there is any context in which it makes sense to label Unter den Linden as "Bulevar Bajo los Tilos". But it's been tagged that way as far back as I have been able to find.

Looks like Iberian Gauge will be with us forever. Spain is going to tell the EU that changing the gauge of the conventional rail network (or even part of it) would be too expensive and too disruptive.

Renfe's most obscure current train category (probably), Proximidad, is considered successful enough for the five routes to continue.
But apparently not enough of a success for it to be exten…

I joined the Fediverse originally because I was curious about the #openstreetmap instance, then found lots of interesting things about my other interests such as #photography, #hiking, and travelling by #train.
All these interests are also reflected in my photos on Flickr and Pixelfed.
I had a personal website/blog way back in the 00s, and will definitely certainly 100% get around to reviving it some day soon. Soonish.
