Gave up on 100 Days of Swift when I hit the UI portion, and it was created with a (much?) earlier version of Xcode, such that the directions pointed me at things that no longer exist. Since I'm doing this mostly on a lark, I don't want to … Day twelve of 100 Days of Swift is optionals and related concepts. As Tony Hoare referred to null as the billion dollar mistake, many languages have attacked the problem, both with language syntax and with library support. I think one face… Day eleven of 100 Days of Swift is protocols and extensions. Sort of like Java interfaces, C++ mixing classes and Python monkey-patching. I have mixed feelings around these, as they seem potentially easy to abuse (much like operators in C+… Day nine of 100 Days of Swift continues introducing features of structs. Similar support for static data members, access control and such like. I am once again interested in a feature one can implement on one's own in C++, but which is pre… Day eight, 100 Days of Swift, is structs (C++ has structs, classes, and so it seems does Swift). Here struct members are called properties, a minor difference in nomenclature from C++. More interesting is the presence of pre/post-op method… Days six and seven of 100 Days of Swift cover closures. In different languages I've seen them called this, callables, first or higher-order functions, lambdas, and so on. The wheel keeps getting reinvented/adopted. I've always had mixed fe… Day five of !Q0 Days of Swift was "functions, parameters, and errors". There was a little more to unpack, so when I'm ready to actually write something in #swift, I'll find it less strange. Like the use of labels for parameters. One varia… Got a backlog of 'days' for 100 Days of Swift. Day four was loops. Pretty standard stuff, if with somewhat different syntax than what I'm used to. I'm currently doing the "how do they do this think that I do in my favorite language" phase … So I looked into pattern matching for swift, and they do indeed have many of the semantic constructs, documented at https://docs.swift.org/swift-book/documentation/the-swift-programming-language/patterns/ #swift Day Three of 100 Days of Swift is operators (mainly). Syntax and semantics borrowed from the broad pool of languages, I feel generally comfortable here. I'm glad they don't seem to have opted for type-specific operators like OCaml's +, +.,… Day Two of 100 Days of Swift. Syntax differs from other languages, but semantics is a familiar bled of other languages with the same features. #swift
