the answer to this is yes, it would actually break my last setup because stuff like steam has this set by default

i wonder if there could be some kind of option for selecting the "preferred" dedicated graphics card in systems settings somewhere? that seems like an ideal route to go without breaking setups like the one i had just before this

found out why it's like this; it simply checks for the presence of /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch
i do not have that on my system
