Finally getting back around to a proper implementation of blurry dotplots on an experimental branch of ggdist #rstats

Last two things: quantile-based breaks on histograms are now supported, and its now easier to create legends for `stat_spike()` by using `after_stat(at)`

Where-ish is the MU Collective at #chi2024? We've got 2 workshops, 9 papers (4 honorable mentions + 1 best paper), and a SIG --- on topics including vis literacy, human-AI interaction, uncertainty vis, multiverse analysis, vis for public policy, data sonification, and new ways of publishing in #HCI! https://mucollective.northwestern.edu/

Yeah yeah this is also the version with the goofy blurry dotplots, but --- hey! --- you can make them with intervals too
(the point here is to force people to confront the reliability of quantile estimates....)

hmmmmmm the existence of Rf_applyClosure is very interesting information to me
Me, working on an #rstats package: hmm this part of the API design is mildly annoying
My brain, every time: hmm yes the best solution to this problem is to completely rewrite R's function call semantics
Me: uhhhhh
This was a fun paper to work on with Abhraneel Sarma @xpu Eli Brown and @Birdbassador, though it took us a looong time to get there.
Is visual EDA totally broken? Maybe / maybe not, but perhaps not as bad as some say if you actually incen…

The `weight` aesthetic is now supported in all distribution calculations (density, CDF, quantiles, points, intervals)
This also lays the foundation for weighted rvars, coming soon to {posterior}... https://github.com/stan-dev/posterior/pu…
The slab and dots geoms can now use "sub-guides", so you can accurately label densities and (drum roll please) ... dot counts!!!
That's right, the longstanding wishlist item of dotplots with labeled counts is finally here!
