▶ The first colorful #aurora I managed to photograph and even a little time lapse! My mobile phone camera on 3 second exposure and 1600 iso, one frame every five seconds so about five minutes compessed into seven seconds. ★ 2 So the bright auroras with nice fuzzy edges are mostly because the aurora moved a lot inbetween the start of the exposure and the end. Aurora can change so fast so you really want very short exposure to capture the details. But the light is so faint you need a good camera and lense that gets a lot of light on the sensor... Problems problems 🙂 The solution is high ISO but… ▶ The feeling when the night sky slowly morphs over your head. I didn't have patience to let it play out more because the other side of the sky was even more. Kept jumping around trying to get the fun things, should have had a fish eye lence… ★ 1 For you that have not seen auroras in person: The colours don't look this bright, it is the camera amplifying a lot thanks to long exposure and a lot of brightness knob twiddling in the background I'm sure. About

I have always loved raytracing and played around with POV-Ray a lot when I was a kid. It was a lot of testing and waiting and reading the documentation until you could finally see any result. POV-Ray is more about programming art (the gui being a texteditor) and since then I'm mostly into making actual programs and haven't really created much art. There are so many interesting and fun tools to play around with now so will have to start trying them out! :-)

Iso 3600. Yesterday night got a bit late but after midnight the clouds were mostly gone so I tried some shots with the mobile phone on a tripod and long exposure.
