Series 2 has been quite good overall (I’ve been progressing through it well) and finally having reached the episode with Ahsoka it feels like it’s taking off. The revelation about Grogu’s identity and backstory was great but the backdrop i… And after that good start, ep2 is more Doctor Who than #StarWars. Some more formulaic monster of the week. Watched the first episode of series 2. It’s a terrific start and very #StarWars in a good way. Yes it’s somewhat monster/scrape of the week but the return to Tatooine gives it a familiar dustiness, the visuals were sumptuous, and the Marsh… Worrying that things were going to go downhill after that, I’m pleasantly surprised that the final two episodes in S1 were a good finale: the story flowed, the adventures twisted and turned, and it felt like proper #StarWars with its gener… Ep6 is an odd one. Whether a one off or a new departure, it was stylistically a major shift: somewhere in the ballpark of Doctor Who, it’s packed with SF cliches, one dimensional characters and some dire writing. A heist side plot that tel… And ep5, while a bit more fun, similarly is just “sidetrack scrape of the week”. Some nice jumps back to old stories (how can Tatooine as a desert backwater be crucial to so much of #StarWars?) and one or two fun characters, but we’re stil… Ok maybe it slightly doesn’t. Ep4 was a rather twee and schmaltzy episode that only serves to keep the Mando and child moving by means of some cliched salt of the earth peasants who learn how to fight for themselves. No settling down, no f… …we can’t quite tell yet. Is this just a simple survival story about two people who’ve become attached? Or something bigger perhaps about the Mandalorian’s recognition of the significance of the child’s apparent powers? Yes it’s all still … Ep3, and while the pace and style hasn’t changed, I feel the story had progressed nicely to start to hook me: we understand more about the Mandalorian and his people, whom we’ve not really encountered much in the canon since the Clone Wars… I watched ep2 tonight. A certain charm emerges in the titular character as we see him interacting with the child, but the monster of the weak vibe and the Jawas means we don’t seem to be getting anywhere. It’s all pleasant fun but we need … And there’s three series of this to come. So plenty time for it to grow, grip and develop. We’ll see. engaging. Only in the very final scene when we are introduced to Baby Yoda do we see a glint of interesting humanity (mandalority?) that makes me feel there’s something interesting to come in the story. As I’ve said before, Star Wars is a…
