Muhammad Ghazali

Muhammad Ghazali (full name Sheikh Muhammad al-Ghazali) was a highly influential Egyptian Islamic scholar, thinker, and writer, born in 1917. He passed away in 1996. While he was a prominent figure in Islamic thought and Dawa (preaching), and certainly recited the Quran as part of his life and teachings, he is not primarily known as a “Quran reciter” (Qari) in the same specialized sense as individuals whose main public role and legacy revolve around the art and performance of Quranic recitation. He held various positions, including Director of Islamic Call Department in Egypt, Director of the Mosque Department at the Ministry of Awqaf, and later served as the head of the Islamic Studies Department at Umm al-Qura University in Makkah. While he undoubtedly had a profound connection with the Quran and recited it, his primary contribution was as a scholar, reformist, and orator rather than a professional reciter whose recordings are widely sought for their unique vocal qualities or mastery of *maqamat*.
