Then you learn where the spores were collected from. You start noticing the gradients, the textures, the tiny details that suddenly carry a different meaning. Medium and subject are not the same thing. A painter can use oil without making work “about oil.” Microorganisms are my language, but the questions underneath them are transformation, perception, time, agency and life itself. What part of yourself has changed so much that your younger self wouldn’t recognize it?

I was trying to understand it. At first, I thought I could impose order on it-guide its growth into precise geometric forms. Instead, I found myself studying the tension between two opposite forces: sharp, deliberate lines and an organic system that keeps rewriting the rules. Every piece becomes a negotiation between structure and spontaneity. Maybe that’s what makes this material so compelling. ⠀ How much control do you think an artist should have over their medium?
